It is actually simply titled Joanna. No last name. While it is very much Jo's solo effort Dave Bainbridge and the rest of the Iona gang all had a significant contribution. However it is definitely not an Iona album. This work is really a reflection of Jo's heart. It is mostly modern arrangments of traditional hymns. It is a bit softer than what you would expect from Iona but it is a very nice album. One really has to appreciate where Jo is coming from on this work. She has a wonderful heart and everyone who buys this album needs to accept it on its own merit and not get too wrapped up in comparing it to Iona. I will need to give more listening to really talk much more about the tracks specifically. However I like it so far and I am glad for her to have been able to do this. I know my spell checker is going to have a nervous breakdown over this one ;-) It is fun to get the translations for Gaelic songs, but for me, it sometimes spoils the magic of the song. How does everyone else feel about this? BTW since I'm new to this list I guess I should introduce my self. I'm a 44 year old male living in Southern California. I became interested in Clannad after the release of 'Bamba'. I've been hooked ever since then. My interest in Celtic music really exploded after seeing 'Riverdance.' I also love Capercaillie, Deanta, Davy Spillane, Loreena McKennitt and many others to numerous to mention here. (contact me off list if you want to know more) I hope the translation was a help to those who wanted it. Again the credit for the translation goes to someone else. If you are out there THANK YOU! Alot of times it sounds like Iona's more mellow passages, but it also has a unique flavor that is different. Track number 9 is my favorite so far. The title escapes me and I don't have the CD with me at the moment. As is popular among US Christian distributors when you call, their voice mail system recordings contain music from the latest release as well as the artist kindly plugging their new release after which, they inform me that some will be with me in a moment to take my call. For the last 2 weeks it has been Joanna's turn for this. Very interesting to say the least. I think the CD should do quite well. Well - you could try getting the AA bed and Breakfast guide for the UK or contact Toruist information for the UK or more specifically places near but not in London which are pleasant like Richmond, Kingston, Surbiton, Twickenham or Teddington - you should be able to find something arouind here and it's only a train ride into central London.
